In the upcoming clash at the Opus Arena on Thursday night, the top two teams in Group D, Croatia and Turkey, will face off. I’ve chosen two strikers who are currently in excellent form for the Croatian side, and they’ll be up against a Turkish defense that has appeared vulnerable throughout the tournament.

Bruno Petkovic, who plays for Dinamo Zagreb, has been on fire, scoring seven goals in his last six games, with four of those games seeing him find the back of the net. He’s already scored twice in the qualifiers, both goals coming against Latvia, and I have confidence in his ability to score against Turkey. In his last ten games for both club and country, Bruno has managed 21 shots, with nine of them hitting the target.

Croatia’s last outing resulted in a 1-0 victory in Armenia, thanks to a first-half goal from Andrej Kramaric, and I believe he has what it takes to score once again. The Hoffenheim player has scored in five of his last six games, including the last two matches for his national team. Kramaric and Petkovic typically make up two-thirds of a three-pronged attack, and their coach, Zlatko Dalić, has given no indication that he plans to alter the formation for this match.

One of Turkey’s significant challenges in recent times has been their struggle to maintain a solid defence. Vincenzo Montella’s squad has managed just one clean sheet in these qualifiers and is arriving to this game off the back of 4-2 friendly defeat to free scoring Japan.  Their defensive woes only helps our cause here.
