We’re diving back into the Euro 2024 qualifiers for the Daily Double, where Albania aims to secure qualification against Moldova, while England seeks to entertain the Wembley crowd by scoring goals aplenty.
Moldova had a surprising victory over Poland with a 3-2 win at home in June. However, their subsequent results have been mixed. They managed a commendable 1-1 draw away to Austria and a narrow 1-0 win against the Faroe Islands. Yet, they suffered a 3-1 defeat away to Sweden and settled for another 1-1 draw in Poland. A loss against Albania in this game, combined with a Czechia win away in Warsaw, will eliminate them from the competition.
Albania understands that a victory secures their qualification, and their recent form has been impressive. Winning five out of their last six games, including a 2-0 home victory against Moldova on Friday, Albania appears primed for another win. They’ve notably triumphed with a 3-0 victory over Czechia and a 2-0 win against Poland, which sets the stage for their confidence going into this match.
England, having already secured qualification, faces Malta. Gareth Southgate intends to provide game time to usual non-starters in this friendly. However, they are expected to comfortably overcome the Maltese side. In their previous encounter, England secured a 4-0 away win in Ta’Qali, and now, playing at home, they aim to put on a show for the Wembley crowd. Malta recently conceded three goals against Ukraine (1-3) and four against Italy (0-4). Hence, regardless of the England line-up, they stand a good chance of scoring three goals considering the defensive vulnerability of the Maltese.
