We’re off to Africa for a FIFA World Cup qualifying match featuring Liberia and Equatorial Guinea, and I have a hunch that the visiting team will secure a victory here.

Liberia is in a dismal state, having lost their last five consecutive games and failing to secure a win in nine matches. The home side, under the management of their native coach Ansumana Keita, holds the 151st spot in the FIFA World Rankings and have been beaten by teams all ahead of them in the placings.

On Friday afternoon, they experienced a home defeat against the 121st ranked Malawi. Last month, they faced a resounding 3-0 loss away in Morocco (13th) and were beaten 3-2 by Libya (126th) just three days earlier. In September, Ghana (60th) defeated them 3-1, and in March, they played two games against South Africa (64th), securing a 2-2 draw away and facing a 2-1 loss away as well.

Their opponents on Monday, Equatorial Guinea, hold a higher rank at 91st and have clinched victories in four of their last eight games, maintaining an undefeated streak. Their most recent loss occurred in September 2022, resulting in a 2-0 defeat away to Cameroon. Following that, they drew two games against Rwanda (ranked 140th) with a 0-0 and a 2-2 draw against Togo (ranked 119th). Subsequently, they secured three consecutive wins, defeating Botswana (ranked 148th) twice, with 2-0 victories away and a 3-2 win at home, before stunning Tunisia (ranked 32nd) with a 1-0 victory.

In September, they managed a 1-1 draw away against Libya, and in October, they held Burkina Faso (ranked 56th in the world) to a goalless 0-0 draw at home. Last Wednesday, they emerged victorious with a 1-0 win over Namibia, who are ranked 114th.

Good luck!
