Ranked 21st in the FIFA World Rankings, Iran commenced their World Cup qualifiers on a high note with a convincing 4-0 home victory against the lower-ranked Hong Kong (150th). They now head into their Tuesday fixture against Uzbekistan (73rd) with a positive and confident outlook.

The Uzbek team also started their qualifiers with a win, securing a 3-1 victory away against Turkmenistan (141st), despite trailing by a goal at halftime. They’ve displayed decent form, notably winning their previous two warm-up away matches last month against China (79th) with a 2-1 result and Vietnam (94th) with a 2-0 score line. Additionally, they managed an impressive 3-3 draw against Mexico during their tour to the United States in September, although they faced a 3-0 defeat against the U.S.A.

In this matchup, I believe Iran presents a significantly different challenge and possesses a superior squad. Sardar Azmoun, the AS Roma striker who scored twice against Hong Kong, promises to be a constant threat to the Uzbek defence. Accompanying him is Mehdi Taremi, the proficient forward from FC Porto, aiming to add to his tally of 39 goals in 73 appearances for his country. Assisting the attacking duo will be players like Alireza Jahanbakhsh from Feyenoord and Saman Ghoddos from Brentford.

Iran will have too much for Uzbekistan here and the hosts may have trouble finding the net, with the Iranians heading into this match with five clean sheets in the last six games in all competitions.

Good luck!
