I’ve said it a few times now: if I were an alien dropped onto Earth for the first time and watched every team at this World Cup, I’d probably conclude Colombia are the best side on the planet. They’ve been the team that’s impressed me the most — relentless, entertaining, and brilliantly balanced — so tonight’s clash with Ghana is one I’m genuinely excited for.
Colombia’s numbers back it up too: 59 shots in the group stage and just one goal conceded. And now I’m getting 7/1 for combining their three most accurate shooters into a Bet Builder? That’s an easy yes.
Tonight in Kansas City will feel almost like a home crowd for Colombia, and their shooting output has been nothing short of outrageous. Ghana can cause problems with pace and physicality, but Colombia manage games better than almost anyone in this tournament — possession, tempo, territory, all of it. This matchup plays directly into their strengths.
Bayern Munich’s left‑forward Luis Díaz has produced 3 shots on target in the group stage and scored against Uzbekistan. He’s taken 11 shots in total, constantly finding pockets of space even when double‑teamed. But because he’s often surrounded by defenders, he isn’t actually Colombia’s most accurate shooter.
That honour belongs to Crystal Palace right‑back Daniel Muñoz. He was rested for part of the Portugal game, but made an appearance from the bench, he has scored twice, with 2 shots on target from just 3 shots taken, the one shot he missed? It hit the post!!! Also, he had a goal ruled out DR Congo for a tight offside.
Then there’s Gustavo Puerta, the 22‑year‑old Racing Santander midfielder who helped the club back to La Liga for the first time since 2011/12. He is a true box‑to‑box shooter, he’s taken 10 shots, nine from outside the area (one was on the edge of the box), and hit three on target from long range. Even against Portugal’s higher line, he managed four attempts and one on target.
I certainly wouldn’t put you off backing him in the shot on target outside the box market too, but you have definitely lost the value you got at the start of the tournament. If he is playing for Santander next season, I will surprised.
Ghana have allowed 38 shots and 11 on target so far, repeatedly giving midfield runners space to shoot. Colombia, meanwhile, have unleashed 59 shots and 19 on target in just three games. With that volume, it’s hard to believe this trio sits at 7/1.
Best of luck.
